70-letnica Inštituta za kriminologijo: Posebna angleška izdaja Revije za kriminalistiko in kriminologijo

On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the Institute of Criminology at the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana, we are pleased to present a special issue of the Journal of Criminalistics and Criminology dedicated to this important anniversary. Founded in 1954, the Institute was the first criminological institute in the former Yugoslavia and is one of the oldest in Europe. Its tradition of research has shaped the development of criminological science and practice in Slovenia and beyond for decades.

Contents of the special edition:
– Matjaž Ambrož discusses the achievements of theorising punishment.
– Aleš Završnik, Lora Briški and Mojca M. Plesničar analyse the digitisation of Slovenian justice and related challenges.
– Manja Skočir discusses the challenges of managing digital spaces with regard to harmful content on online platforms.
– Iva Ramuš Cvetkovič and Anže Mediževec critically assess the obligations of states in preventing genocide in Gaza.
– Luka Gal Prestor, Jasmina Arnež and Mojca M. Plesničar explore social care detention in Slovenia.
– Kristina Čufar and Andrej Kapun discuss the parliamentary debate on cannabis regulation in Slovenia.

The special issue, edited by Gorazd Meško, includes a special editorial note by the director of the Institute Professor Aleš Završnik, and consists of contributions by Institute researchers addressing key issues in criminology, criminal law and digital challenges.

Celebrating the anniversary
The 70th anniversary is an important milestone, highlighting the Institute’s long-standing contribution to the development of criminological science and its role in addressing key societal issues. We congratulate all those who have contributed to the Institute’s achievements and wish them a successful continuation of their research work!
