Slovenia – England: Collaborative Innovations in Youth Justice (SE-CIYJ)
ABOUT THE PROJECT
This collaborative project aims to unite justice scholars from the UK and Slovenia to explore youth justice and penality in both jurisdictions and suggest innovations that cut across territorial, political, and cultural lines. The project is topical, as England has recently adopted child-friendlier youth justice policies based on the premise that children are developmentally different from adults (Youth Justice Board 2022). In Slovenia, the European Union and Council of Europe are currently funding research examining how viable the youth justice system is, how it could become more effective, and whether the specialisation of youth courts could contribute to their procedural and substantive fairness.
The experts in both project groups are academics who have worked extensively in criminal law, criminology, and youth justice. Beyond their academic work, they have participated in numerous legislative, analytical, and educational activities in the fields required by this project.
