The event addressed the question of legal protection against threats in airspace and outer space, which is raised by the video and sound installation by Shona Illingworth:Topologies of Airspace. The exhibition explores various cultural meanings and notions of freedom that have always been associated with the sky, and warns that the legal frameworks created in the last century no longer correspond to the more serious threats facing the world’s population today. In this context, artist Shona Illingworth, together with human rights lawyer Nick Grief, founded the Airspace Tribunal in 2018, an international people’s court for airspace, which she currently heads together with Prof. Dr. Renato Salecl. It will examine the arguments for and against a proposed new human right – the right to life free from physical or psychological threat from the air.
You are cordially invited to visit the exhibition, which will be on display in the basement exhibition space of the Cukrarna until April 6, 2025.
