On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, the full-day conference AYASU? – Are You a Program Update? took place at Šiška Cinema, organized by the Aksioma Institute, Institute for Contemporary Arts, Ljubljana. The event brought together artists, theorists, and researchers who, through lectures, discussions, and narrative performances, explored how individuals can navigate their involvement in digital realities when resistance is constantly monitored and co-opted.
One of the key moments of the conference was the third panel, prepared by the Aksioma Institute in collaboration with the Institute of Criminology at the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana. In this segment, young researcher Iva Ramuš Cvetković presented a lecture titled The Transformation of War, the Fragmentation of Law, and the Dominance of Technology. In her presentation, she shed light on the complexity of automated AI weapons and the legal and practical challenges posed by the use of these advanced technologies in military conflicts.
The central question of the panel revolved around the impact of artificial intelligence on military strategies and the conduct of wars. The discussion highlighted how technology shapes our perception of military conflicts and directs our understanding of the world. In her lecture, Iva Ramuš Cvetković connected three key phenomena: the rise of new technologies, the relativization of the international legal framework, and the transformation of war, emphasizing their mutual interconnection and impact.
The AYASU? conference provided an important platform for reflection and critical discussion on the relationship between technology, law, and social change, and opened up space for further research at the intersection of art, theory, and digital realities.
