We cordially invite you to a lecture by Zoran Kanduč entitled “The Dissenting Hegemon and the Authoritarian Militarization of Europe”, which will take place as part of the Tuesday Meetings on Tuesday, 15 April 2025, at 13:00 in the library of the Institute of Criminology at the Faculty of Law in Ljubljana.
The lecture will cover specifically criminological topics such as the sanctioning of the most serious crimes within the framework of a “rules-based international order”, global and regional (in)security, governance through a permanent “state of emergency” as well as political and propagandistic control of the population in the blurred context of Donald Trump’s victory and the reactions of European/Western ruling elites to (announced) changes in US foreign and domestic policy.
Particular attention is paid to the unsettling processes in Europe: the tendency to continue and possibly escalate the collective West’s coalition/representational war in Ukraine, the limits of civic democracy and, last but not least, the preparations of the EU and NATO for a direct confrontation of the “coalition of the willing” with Russia.
As can be seen, the ruling elites of Europe and Britain are eager to try again in the near future to aggressively resolve the “Russian question” and eo ipso demonstrate to the “rest” of the world that this is still the “continent” that has been the main source of political and economic aggression for the last 500 years, e.g. of modern imperialist conquest.e.g. modern imperialist conquest, economic exploitation and oppression of subjugated peoples, genocidal settler colonization (e.g. in North America, Australia and historic Palestine), two world wars and various sanctions of uprisings against capitalist rule.
