Jakub Dr\u00e1pal<\/strong> is an associate professor at Charles University and a PI of an ERC StG Reconstructing Sentencing. He is interested in sentencing and penal policy and he employs primarily quantitative, doctrinal and comparative methods; he focuses mainly on Central and Eastern Europe. He studied and worked at Sorbonne, Cambridge, MPI in Freiburg and Leiden.\u00a0 He loves Slovenia and has hiked most of the Slovenian mountain ranges. Unlike his previous visits to the Institute, he is not bringing a tent.<\/span><\/p>\n

In this video, Assoc. Prof. Jakub Drapal from Charles University, Prague discusses one of the core challenges of law: the fact that the law in books often differs significantly from how it is applied and experienced in practice. He also talks about his new ERC research project and how large language models (LLMs) can help analyse judicial decisions and provide new insights into criminal behaviour.<\/span><\/p>\n
